Jebba Hubba, Hubby, Baby Bubba and the Kitty Combo!

Poor Hubby can’t catch a break! First his feet, then his bp, now the car!

Just a very VERY quick note about this. Hubby heard a noise when he pulled out of the driveway – we looked and saw nothing. I was sitting behind him in MY car on the way to work and I smelled burning oil or rubber I wasnt sure. As we continued I realized it WAS hubby’s car. AND i started to see smoke from the right side of his car.

I called his cell and told him he had to pull over. It went something like this:
me: Hubby I smell burning oil maybe and I see smoke
hubby: oh – okay

Very dramatic – I know! LOL! Just hold your horses here is the dramatic part…

Hubby pulled over just before the highway. He pulled off onto the ramp into the mall parking lot and at the end of the ramp only a few feet from the parking lot…. his tire POPPED!

His poor saab hobbled into the lot. The tire was STEAMING! I dont know much about cars but I do know this is not normal. The burning smell was definitely burning rubber. Blehhh.

Hubby was going to try and change the tire BUT the tool to remove the caps from the nuts/bolt was missing AND we knew it was more than just a tire and would need to be towed.

AAA – was sucky. And THANKFULLY Hubby still had the Roadside assistance with Saab so they came to get him and towed the car to the nearest dealership. After the tow-truck brought him to the dealership the service people told Hubby that the coil/spring thinger has been known to rust and break and then it twists and rubs or cuts into the tire.

They also said it was under warranty and that hopefully they can get him a new tire as well for free, since the broken piece is what caused the tire to pop.

I asked Hubby to take picture of black saaby gettin’ on the tow truck but I am not sure if he did. For now Black Saaby is getting fixed, getting an oil change as well and Hubby has a loaner car to motor around in/get to work.

He should get to work just in time for lunch. Score!

** UPDATE **

Hubby DID take pictures! WAHOOO!! His car is all fixed but he got to the dealership a little late and they were closed so, he will have to wait until tomorrow to pick up Black Saaby. Please note the beautiful pictures that Hubby took – the last one is actually kind of cool with the snow flakes coming down – minus the fact that the car is on the bed of a tow truck- LOL!

Our South Jersey Correspondent Biggie Phil sent along some of his winter weather photos to give us a glimpse of just how “winter wonderland” it is down there. I should take the time to snap a couple photos of our 16-18inches of snow but I can’t stand to be outside for more than going from the car to the house!

I am not sure what this has to do with Winter BUT this is a rare look at the pajama pants of Biggie Phil. (For some reason I just got a strange craving for Cheesy Poofs.)

Looking out from the glass window in the front door we sneak a peak out into the tundra.

The beautiful blanket of snow is undisturbed as everyone huddles inside without a care.

The only creatures brave enough to wander around are once again the dinosaur turkeys on the hunt for some food…

OH! And Elsie of course! Elsie my sweet little pot-bellied niece doggy bravely frolics in the frigid snow! — I guess no one told her that it was freezing outside!

Nugget Trouble

Nugget found the hermit crab cage that I had wrapped in a towel to keep the warm air in. He snuck/sneaked into and under the towel and curled up around the cage – probably tormenting the poor hermies.

I snapped this picture as he was caught and was running away unraveling the towel from the cage and everything!

On our snow day we decided to make waffles. We received a really cute heart shaped waffle maker from the mother of one of my bffs for my bridal shower and this was the first chance we had gotten to use it.

I googled “waffle mix from scratch” and used a recipe from the food network.

I think the waffle maker did a great job but the recipe was a little lacking. They definitely didn’t rise as much as they should have. Maybe it was the recipe, maybe it was the baking powder I used, or maybe it was chef error – I am not sure. They were still tasty just thin and crispy instead of big, fluffy and crispy.

I got a little creative with my waffle. 10 points for anyone who can guess what I sutck right into the batter. DEEEE-LISH-US!

We installed the tile a little bit ago and after waiting more than the 24hours – we finally got a chance to do the grouting.

Hubby’s back & feet have been hurting him so I took on the task. I have techincally done this before but not in a very long time so, I watched a few DIY / HGTV channel videos and some videos on YouTube and felt I was ready to tackle the project.

Hubby helped mix the grout.

Then I got to work using the “float” and I worked the grout diagonally into the cracks. I kept the float at a 45 degree angle too. There aren’t any pictures of this because, I was working! The grouting process is time sensitive so we felt like the urgency of giving it our complete attention.

After pushing the grout into all the cracks and using the float at the 45 degree angle to remove as much extra as I could then, I used the special tile/grout sponges and I had to wipe away all of the excess. This took a long time but, I kept at it.

I was aching after all that bending, scraping, wiping, etc. This is how the wet grout looked at the end of it all. (Of course when it is wet it is noticeably darker and there is a slight haze that would be removed after 24 hours with a cheese cloth.)

I was ready for bed after it all so we closed the door and locked it (just in case one of us tried to go in there for some reason and forgot that the floor needed 24 hours to cure). When the 24 hours had elapsed we opened the door and – TADA!!!! – beautiful grout! *Note: Grout is lighter in the pictures because of the flash. The color is “natural gray” according to the bag. I would say it is “Ash”.

The grout ended up being slightly lighter than we had remembered but after some reading we found out that different kinds of water can affect the color and/or if you use too much water it can lighten the color. One suggestion was to use a 50% water / 50% vinegar solution to see if any salt residue was left on top. I thought I would give it a try. After a quick brushing of the solution on the grout lines the light whiteness was gone – the color was more accurate. Most importantly though, we were happy with the color and the results!

(Note the guys had time the next weekend to put up a few walls of sheet-rock and also install the toilet again! Woohoo for a working toilet upstairs!)

Yesterday was a snow day. It was a blizzard for real…and we were lucky enough to be able to stay home and not risk our lives on the roads.

I went out in the early afternoon to shovel the snow the first half of the snow. I knew it was going to start snowing worse shortly and I didn’t want to have to shovel all 16 inches at the same time. This is me almost finished shoveling about 6-7inches. The lady across the street had the same idea and had some man coming out every hour to shovel for her.

In case you can’t see the grimace – this is right before I yelled at Hubby “Hurry Up! It’s freakin’ freezin’!”

I moved the cars to the end of the driveway so I wouldn’t have to shovel so much in the morning. Of course the plows had come by so there was a nice 4 foot tall wall of snow behind the cars. I shoveled us out of that this morning and I am crossing my fingers that the plows don’t get over zealous and push it back in front of my driveway when I am not home today.

Hrrmmuppppfff.

This Just In!

These photos come from our South Jersey News Correspondent – Biggie Phil. He sent me these photos before the second onslaught of winter weather. Maybe we will get new photos tomorrow after another 12″-18″ inches of snow falls.

Elsie was having a good time too – she kind of looks like a potbelly pig here because you can only see little stubby legs in the snow!

And on the fly – a couple camera phone pics – Look who is back! ( Remember from the last South Jersey trip?)

Here’s how it looks for this weekend.

We are expecting 6″-12″, while ma & pa are expecting 12″-24″ – EEEEKKS!!!!
As for you people we know in Las Vegas- pipe down! I can hear your snide laughter all the way over here!!!

Wild Kingdom Lobby

I was in the Shop Rite and as I walked by the seafood counter I noticed a rather large display of Lobsters. Poor guys were just sitting there on top of ice and each other. Waiting to be scooped up for $5.99/lb with your price-plus card.

Every time I see them like that – just waiting there to be someone’s food – all alive… waiting…. I feel really bad for them. I feel guilty that I have eaten lobster. I feel most guilty when I look at the large lobsters.

I read that it takes 7 years for a Lobster to reach 1 lb. Then they gain 1lb every 3 years after that. They must molt their shell in order to grow as well. So basically the big huge guys you see sitting on that ice table are around 20 years old – since they are around 5lbs.

It just makes me feel kind of sad that the poor creature survived the wild underwater world for 20 years just to be trapped in a fisherman’s net and sent to Shop Rite. Then the poor lobster just sits and waits on an ice table for some hungry person to bring him home to his death.

I spent a moment with one of the biggest ones and told him how cool I thought he was.

I don’t like to see my food alive – or 20 years old. (I guess it’s kind of freaky that we eat other animals that technically still babies too – Guhhhh I should only eat grass from now on!)

My Father-in-law is the Handy-Man-Extraordinaire!

He is so super that he wired our entire bathroom and installed our shower light all by himself. We gave Hubby the day off because his feet were really hurt and he needed to be off of them for a whole day in my opinion. Every time Hubby got up I would yell at him -in a loving but firm voice – to sit back down! Meanwhile, like I said, my FIL trudged onward!

There was a pencil drawn diagram, lots of wire, lots of wire cutting, lots of exchange boxes, and even one minor electrical *Pop*! I had just finished asking “What should I do if you get electrocuted?” and a minute later a big fireworks like *POP* bursts out of the wire that my FIL was working on. He was working on getting the plastic cap end back onto the old metal cable outer shell thinger (so the metal casing which was sharp wouldn’t cut through the wire and cause a spark/short/etc) and his screwdriver ended up in the wrong place!

I jumped back and surveyed the area and everything was good. I wasn’t sure if my FIL had been shocked or anything so I just looked at him and he said…”Yeah I meant to do that.” I asked him if he was shocked, and he said “Nah, I was holding the plastic end of the screw driver. See the screw driver is all black now!”

Phew – I guess I wont be asking anymore “what should I”, or “what if” questions.

We now have power to the fan/light combo, and a new timer switch for that. It has tiny green lights for in the dark. A new outlet with bright white nightlight for near the vanity. Wiring for by the vanity for the overhead vanity lights. And a light in the shower which Handy-Man-Mikey had to cut a hole in the cieling, go into the attic (in the freezing temps) and install.

Check out the specialized gear for cutting holes in ceilings

Fan/Light Combo – Soo pretty!
